race rules

I/a. The race takes place on the bike path around Lake Balaton. This path is only partially a specially constructed bike path; other sections—mainly within towns—are designated on public roads. Especially on the southern shore, the bike path often runs on shared roads through less trafficked streets and bike-friendly roads within towns. In these areas, participants must proceed with caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations.

Special attention is required: when the designated running route crosses a main road (crossing according to police instructions) and when the designated running route crosses a railway track (crossing according to civil guard instructions).

In these areas, participants must follow the instructions of the police, race officials, and civil guards. When crossing Route 71, police will direct traffic to ensure the safety of runners. At railway crossings, if the light is red or a train is approaching, the civil guard will stop the runners. In both cases, running can only be continued upon clear indication from the police or civil guard.

A lead cyclist will precede the first runner, and a trailing cyclist will mark the end of the field. Where the route allows, a sweep bus will also follow the runners. The race coverage applies to the section of the route between the lead and trailing cyclists. The sweep vehicle will proceed at a pace matching the daily time limit; those who fall behind must withdraw from that day's race but may start the next day. Runners who drop out are required to board the sweep bus, which will follow the field and transport them to the finish.

The race takes place on a route that is NOT  closed to traffic, so participants should expect the presence of other road users.

I/b. During the race, where the route is designated on a bicycle-friendly road (public road), competitors may only use the right-hand lane in the direction of travel, or the right-hand side of the road in the direction of travel on 1-lane roads. On cycle paths, you must ride on the right side of the road. Where the cycle path runs on the pavement, you must run on it.

If there is any vehicle on the road or a faster runner arrives, you must turn right. The regulations of the KRESZ apply to the runners and companions on the entire route of the race, and compliance with them is mandatory.

I/c. Since the race is on a bicycle or bicycle-friendly road NOT closed to traffic, it is not recommended to wear headphones that dampen the noise of the outside world on both ears for the safety of the competitors.

I/d. bszm.maratonfutas.hu contains a detailed interactive route map for each day, as well as route maps and a downloadable gpx track. The most important information will be made available in advance on the event information page of the competition and in the BSI Sport application.

We provide orientation with appropriate signs (signs, painting, tape) on the route. The signs and ribbons are placed not long before the field, but unfortunately, it may happen that someone moves them or rotates them as a joke or out of malice.

We use boards to indicate the daily distance, every 5 kilometers. Every day we mark the marathon distance of that day. The route also marks the 50th, 100th, 150th kilometers of the entire distance, as well as the 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th kilometers of the Öböl Half Marathon, the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, the 30th, 35th and 40th kilometers, as well as the 5th and 10th kilometers of the 15 km BSZM Entrance

B.C. The signs of the Balaton cycle path and the direction signs posted by BSI and the orange/red arrows painted on the road help you follow the route.

II/a. The maps provided each day will include a separate text section indicating the simplest approach for supporters to the start and exchange points. We ask that everyone adheres to the suggested routes and parking areas to ensure that no one disrupts the runners and to avoid congestion around the venues.

Throughout the entire race, runners have priority over supporters and support vehicles at all times.

An early start
From the 2nd day of the competition, the finishers who come close to the level time on the previous day start 30 minutes before the official start of the day (45 minutes on the 2nd day), the so-called early start. They are started in pairs and last no more than 2-3 minutes. After that, it is only possible to start the distance with the official start of the day.

III/a. Teams participating in the race will be issued a distinguishing sign (route permit) for support vehicles upon picking up their race pack. This must be displayed clearly inside the vehicle's windshield, both front and rear, as it authorizes the vehicle to provide support according to the race rules. Direct, continuous vehicle support for individual and relay/pair runners is PROHIBITED.
Support vehicles must not obstruct other participants, vehicles, or pedestrians on the road. Vehicles supporting runners must adhere to traffic rules and are not allowed to enter bicycle paths where the running route follows one.

III/b. Distinguishing signs (route permits) will also be issued to cyclists accompanying participants upon picking up their race pack. These must be displayed clearly on the front of the bicycle.
Direct, continuous support by bicycle is permitted following the runner, starting daily from the 1st aid station.
Support cyclists will start 10 minutes before the runners, including any runners starting early.

Cyclist support is also permitted at the MaratonFüred, provided the above rules are followed.

Cyclist support is not permitted for the Öböl Half Marathon and the BSZM Finisher 15 km distances..

III/c. CYCLE SUPPORT RULES
To ensure the safe conduct of the race, please adhere to the following rules:
Cyclist supporters will be started from the starting area 10 minutes before the field.
Cyclist support is permitted from the first refreshment station of the day.
It is forbidden to stay on the refreshment station area with a bicycle.
If the cyclist supporter wishes to refresh at the refreshment station/changeover point, they may do so by placing their bicycle away from the station, without disturbing the runners, and walking back to the station (If the route allows, the station should be bypassed. If this is not possible, the cyclist must pass through the station while ensuring the safety of people present and the integrity of the products provided.)
During the race, the cyclist supporter is required to wear the distinguishing sign provided to the runner during the race number pickup. The distinguishing sign must display the number of the supported runner/team.
Cyclist support can only be provided in accordance with traffic regulations (KRESZ).
The cyclist supporter must not disturb other participants in their progress.
The runner always has priority.
In the case of irregular support, the runner may receive a time penalty, the extent of which is outlined in the race regulations.
Please follow the guidelines provided in the map sketches for parking support vehicles around the start, finish, and changeover areas.

III/c. REFRESHMENT STATIONS
Refreshment stations will be set up at the start, along the route, at the changeover points, and at the finish. Each participant can only refresh at the table marked for them with a sign. There is a separate table for individual participants and pairs completing the full daily distance of the Balaton and FélBalaton Supermarathon, as well as a separate table for the relay teams. Each refreshment station has a uniform setup:
First is the relay refreshment table (where participants of the Öböl Félmaraton, MaratonFüred, and BSZM Befutó 15 km can also refresh), followed by the refreshment tables for individual and paired runners.
Support vehicles may only stay outside the refreshment station area. Cyclist supporters may refresh at the designated refreshment table for the supported runner without disturbing the runners, provided they leave their bicycles outside the refreshment area.
Participants of the Öböl Félmaraton, MaratonFüred, and BSZM Befutó 15 km can refresh at the tables set up for the relay teams along the route.
MaratonFüred participants can refresh at the table marked with the "MaratonFüred Refreshment" sign placed before the changeover points.

III/d. INDIVIDUAL REFRESHMENT DROP-OFF
Individual refreshment drop-off is possible no later than 30 minutes before the official start of the day during the opening hours of the race office. The individual refreshment must be placed in the collection box at the race center, which includes the refreshment station number and the distance covered to the station, with the runner's number indicated on it. Individual refreshments can be submitted by all participants except for the Öböl Félmaraton and the BSZM Befutó 15 km. These will be placed by the race organizers at the selected refreshment station. There is also an option to send clothing items to the individual refreshment stations. If the sent clothing remains at the station or if the clothing dropped off at the station is available at the start the following day, it can be collected at the race office during opening hours. Refreshment from vehicles is only permitted while the vehicle is stationary, with full compliance with traffic parking regulations.

III/e. The Planned Selection of Refreshments

IV/a. In the individual, pair, and relay categories of the 2-day and 4-day race, as well as the Maraton+ pair and relay events

IV/A/a. Timekeeping is done using a chip attached to an ankle strap. No deposit is required for the chip. The actual deposit for the chip would be 5000 HUF, which needs to be paid only if the chip is not returned by the Wednesday after the race at the latest. In this case, a “-5000 HUF” charge will be recorded in the runner's balance in the BSI database. The chip will be collected by our staff upon arrival at the finish line in Siófok, and from the MARATON+ relays at the daily finish lines. Participants who withdraw from the race can return the chip at the daily finish line.

IV/A/b. The chip must be worn on the ankle using the velcro ankle strap provided at the registration. It should not be covered during the race.

IV/A/c. On the first day, everyone has the same start time. On the following days, each participant will start their daily time by crossing the mat at the start line. Timing mats will be placed at the relay points along the route. Relay teams can only remove the chip from the ankle when they arrive in the relay zone, and then exchange it by handing over the chip. At the relay points, individual and pair participants will have their split times automatically recorded when they cross the timing mat placed at the relay point.

IV/A/d. Every day, after the finish line closes, the results for that day and the overall standings will be made available on the websites bsieredmenylista.hu and raceresult.hu. Results of participants who are forced to withdraw from the race will also be included, but without rankings. Only the results of those who complete the entire race distance will be considered for the awards.

IV/B INDIVIDUAL ONE-DAY RACES (MARATON+, ÖBÖL HALF MARATHON, MARATONFÜRED, BSZM FINISH 15 KM)
Timing is done using UHF chips attached to the back of the bib number.
To ensure successful recording of individual times, please adhere to the following rules:
The bib number must be worn visibly throughout the race, at the chest/waist level. (Bib holder belt is allowed).
Do not remove, fold, or pin the chip located on the back of the bib number with safety pins.
Ensure you wear your own bib number during the race.
After finishing, please leave the timing point as soon as possible.

IV/C TIME CREDIT
The participants are eligible for time credit in the following cases: When waiting due to a railway crossing signal or as instructed by the race official for safe passage. If the runner is stopped by the race official, the QR code on the runner's bib number will be scanned by the crossing staff upon arrival, and a new code will be sent to the timing officials for continuation. Participants who do not undergo this process will not receive time credit.

V/a. Each daily segment and daily exchange points have a cut-off time determined based on the start time of the last participant. By the cut-off time, the participant/team must complete that day's segment; further continuation will be decided by the race jury. The race may be continued the next day, but the participant will not be evaluated in their category. There is an option to withdraw from the daily distance. In this case, the runner/team can continue the race the following day but will not be evaluated in their category. The relay and aid station personnel will not allow participants exceeding the cut-off time to continue; they will be transported to the finish by the sweep bus. Event information includes the arrival times for each point, considering the daily cut-off times and the start time of the last participant.

V/b. The results of participants who abandon a segment/race or exceed the cutoff time will be listed in the results based on the time of passing the last timing point and the distance covered up to that point, without ranking.

V/c. Participants who abandon the race permanently are required to remove their race number and inform the nearest official (refreshment station, relay point, or closing cyclist) of their withdrawal. The timing chip can be returned at the daily finish line.

VI/a. A competitor who shows evident unpreparedness during the race may be disqualified from further participation at any time by the event organizers. It is the responsibility of every competitor to follow the instructions of the race doctors. Any competitor who is instructed by the official race doctor must immediately withdraw from the race. The competitor may only continue the race the following day with medical clearance. Medical clearance must be requested at the health station set up in the start area at least 30 minutes before the start.

Any reports from other participants in the race must be proven credibly and beyond reasonable doubt to substantiate the objection. All reports and objections will be evaluated and investigated, leading to a final decision. The decision of the race jury is final and cannot be appealed.

VII/d Objections can be submitted at the race office located at the finish line no later than 30 minutes after the closing time of the race for each daily event. An individual competitor may submit an objection in person, while for relay teams and pairs, the team leader must submit it. The fee for an objection is 20,000 Hungarian Forints. VII/e. Throughout the entire race, any questions regarding the race rules and other arising issues will be decided by the event organizers.

VII/f. The Chief Race Official: Árpád Kocsis

VIII/a. In the relay race, mixed teams are evaluated among the male competitors. Relays are evaluated together regardless of the team size. Pairs are categorized and evaluated in male, female, and mixed categories.

VIII/b. The relay exchange occurs at the designated relay zone by transferring the ankle-worn chip. The chip worn on the ankle can only be removed upon arrival at the relay area. After that, the relay can take place with the handover of the timing chip.

The next team member cannot leave the relay area until they are wearing the timing chip on their ankle.

VIII/c. Early change (where the next team member replaces the current team member before the official relay exchange point) is only allowed in case of injury. The team member must reach the early change point without disturbing other competitors. The replaced runner must leave the early change point without disrupting other participants. Teams that change incorrectly may be disqualified from the race. The early change must be reported to the official at the next relay point.

VIII/d. The Maraton+ relay for teams of 5-8 members can take place after the aid stations and at the designated relay points.

VIII/e. An individual participant can be a member of only one team. A team member cannot be part of another team.

Engaging in sports activities, while having numerous physiological benefits, can also pose very minor risks.

It is important to consult a cardiologist or sports doctor before undertaking greater physical challenges to assess your risk factors, evaluate them, and identify any potential illnesses. If you are found to be in a higher cardiovascular risk group, further examination may be necessary. This is to prevent potentially life-threatening events.

Only participate in sports events or more strenuous exercises that require greater-than-average exertion if you have the appropriate endurance fitness.

If you have upper respiratory symptoms, vomiting and/or diarrhea, fever, or injuries, do not participate in the event you are aiming for or in the upcoming training sessions until you have recovered.

If you are uncertain about the appropriate time to resume, consult your general practitioner, sports doctor, orthopedist, or cardiologist.

If you experience any unusual symptoms (e.g., dizziness, loss of consciousness, unreasonably rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, chest pain, chest pressure) while exercising, stop and seek help if necessary!

These recommendations do not depend on the length of the sports activity; what constitutes a significant challenge is individual. Be responsible for yourself, and exercise wisely!

For the effective and prompt resolution of any health issues that may arise during the event, it is ESSENTIAL FOR EVERYONE TO FILL OUT THE MEDICAL INFORMATION SECTION ON THE BACK OF THE BIB NUMBER!
